From my perspective, a man is never born a feminist but instead becomes one. Coming from a highly orthodox Muslim family, I was also entrapped in the bastion of male chauvinism in my adolescence. The patriarchal structure moulded me into a man with high privileges by asserting certain advantages that women or LGBTQ could not enjoy. At first, I was unaware of the benefits of being a man, but later I realized that privileges exist in every nook and corner of my life. Now, as a grown-up and a feminist, I am highly capable of differentiating the notion of privileges a man and woman gain from society. I am privileged because of my gender. Therefore, I am not proud of those privileges.

The origin of the UNGA resolution on a clean, healthy and sustainable environment as a human right can be traced back to the Stockholm Declaration of 1972. The Stockholm declaration was the first to call for a quality environment as a fundamental right which can permit a life of dignity and well-being for people. This declaration is significant for putting environmental problems as a top international concern. Moreover, it initiated a consensus among the industrialised and developing nations regarding the link between economic growth and environmental protection.Further, the next biggest step toward this resolution was the recognition of the Human Rights Council. This came after decades of work done by nations, youth, indigenous people and civil society organisations towards climate crisis mitigation. The Human Rights Council recognised the right to a clean environment in 2021 and elevated its status to ‘universal recognition.’ The council also called for the United Nations General Assembly to do the same.

After the Stockholm declaration, the right was integrated into the domestic laws, constitutions and regional agreements for it to be recognised as a human right by the UN General assembly. Finally, the United Nations General Assembly, on July 28 2022, adopted the historic resolution by recognising the human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment as a result of the Stockholm+50 meeting.

Over the past few years, the South China sea (SCS) has developed as an arena for US-China strategic rivalry. The sea has become an important channel for trade and broader security of a region that is growing in its economic and strategic importance. Besides trade, it is also used for fishing purposes and to obtain oil resources on a large scale. China claims the South China Sea is under its control by specifying the nine-dashed line around the sea on its official maps of Chinese territory. However, the five neighbouring countries include Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Taiwan, also claims ownership of the sea.
Furthermore, China’s maritime actions in the East China Sea (ECS) also threatened the US and its allies. Its domination of SCS and ECS, along with the Yellow Sea, would considerably affect US strategic, political, and economic interests in the Indo-Pacific region. According to the United States, these illegal expansion activities from China gaining complete control over the South China Sea violate international maritime law. Thus, the US is engaging its resistance in conducting extensive maritime claims in various parts of the world through the United State Freedom of Navigation Program (FONOP). This program is being conducted widely by the US and its allies in the SCS, mainly aimed at Chinese illegal maritime claims in the region.It remains to be comprehended how far the US freedom of navigation operations are restraining Chinese expansionist activities in the SCS.

What exactly is happiness, and where can we find happiness? Hindu scriptures say a human can only temporarily secure happiness on earth. This is by pursuing Purusharthas, the four chief purposes of human life, which are Dharma (Religious and Moral Duty), Artha (Wealth), Kama (Conjugal Bliss), and Moksha (Liberation). According to Hinduism, permanent happiness is present only in the highest heaven. Islam says happiness is a lifelong process that includes peace of mind, tranquillity of heart, contentment in the world, and everlasting bliss. The followers of Moses believe that happiness is man’s ultimate goal and pursuit of happiness is a moral duty.Happiness remains one of the least understood and subjective terms in society. To a coffee lover, a good cup of coffee is happiness; to a traveller, good weather is happiness; an evening well spent or movie time is happiness for friends, and toys are a happiness to kids. It is that simple and attainable.

Every individual seeks a better and more happy life. To achieve a victorious life, individuals try various ways and plans. But every individual won’t win their goals. Someone is much happy in their life while someone is not. We should always think about why they are such happy in their life and what makes them happy. Are there any special mantras to achieve a joyful life?

However, we all want a happy and fulfilling life. But a few people attain it. It is unrealistic to keep doing the same old thing and expect circumstances to change. Unfortunately, that is not how life works. People often overlook the things that truly make a difference, and it can be due to fear, laziness, or ignorance.

It is very uncomfortable to share those bitter experiences you face as a woman from a very young age. Who has done this injustice to every woman’s life? Is it our family or the society that we live in?A very habitual dialogue that I used to hear from a very young age goes like this,’ We don’t have a boy who will look after us in our 70s or 80s? If we had a boy, he would have stayed with us in our old age.’ At the same time, they told us to study hard and find a government job, and then it would be easy for us to find a perfect match and a new family. These discourses compelled me to think, ‘Do women have a home of their own?’ The answer is no; they do not have a home of their own. When they are children, their father protects them; when they are married, their partner protects them; and their son protects them when they are old. The chain of protection continues till their death. Has anyone ever asked women what they really need? Will women choose protection or self-sufficiency? As a woman born into a patriarchal family, I want to be self-sufficient, independent and free. We cannot give our wings of freedom to the hands of society.

In August 2021, the departure of the last evacuation flight from the Bagram Airfield marked the chaotic end of an era of American occupation in Afghanistan. The end of the war in Afghanistan has brought back discussions on the role of the Bush Doctrine in the US’s Global War on Terrorism.The US troops left the country in the hands of the Taliban, from whom they were ‘liberated’ back in 2001 under ‘Operation Enduring Freedom’. The intervention was in response to the al-Qaeda's 9/11 attack on World Trade Center and Pentagon. On the very next day, then President George W Bush came up with a grand strategy devised to wipe out the terrorist organization that put a grave threat to its national security.
The proactive counter-terrorism policies pursued by the United States were guided by the neoconservative aspirations of its political leadership. Often deemed as Bush Doctrine, these policies directed the American invasion of Afghanistan and elsewhere.
